LISTEN TO SINGLES
As so often happens in inspired moments, Catherine felt a pull to write a simple song about her own faith journey. A guitar was nearby and the verse lyrics flowed effortlessly. In contrast with the communal expression of “When the Lord Restores,” here we see a close-in view of personal faith in times of trial. The chorus would come to be adapted from an ancient Hebrew blessing.
The collaborator list on this track features a special name, as Catherine’s husband and long-time producer Sebastian Rogers joins for vocals.
“Yahweh Saves” begins the brighter final third of the record, as it details the beautiful exchange God offers; Putting down darkness, rebellion and hunger and receiving blessings instead.
“You call us out of our prisons, out of the dark into day…”
“...we bring you all our need, you set a table before us”
A vintage bass guitar and muted drums provide a strong rhythmic backing. In the bridge, a simple “Yahweh Saves” cycles with ever-increasing harmony, before the first line returns as a coda.
While group vocals had previously been presented in a more humble, folk fashion, here the presentation is much more gospel, owing to contributor Michelle Lang’s choir leading prowess.
Saving the album's final trick for the end, a church organ appears at the midpoint and brings home the bright, revivalist nature of the song.
Many voices join together as the album, which began in a lowly exiled state, now ends full-voiced in the celebration of full union.
